The story of WWI Army Reserve Nurse Helen Fairchild, one of the first nurses overseas at the start of the war. As surgical nurse, she was at a casualty clearing station at the front at the Third Battle of Ypres-Passchendaele. She wrote 15 letters to her family, and parts of the letters are given in this story, "My Aunt, My Hero," that was first published in Nov. 1997, in the Daughters of the American Revolution Magazine. The story was written by her niece, Nelle Fairchild Rote. Interestingly, Helen's autopsy follows the story. Helen died overseas, and the details complete the story.
